COMPUTER SCIENCE

Computer Science is an introductory computer science course that empowers students to create authentic artifacts and engage with computer science as a medium for creativity, communication, problem-solving, and fun.

DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY

Design Technology uses Project Lead The Way - App Creators to introduce students the field of computer science and the concepts of computational thinking, through the creation of mobile apps. Students are challenged to be creative and innovative, as they collaboratively design and develop mobile solutions to engaging, authentic problems. Students experience the positive impact of the application of computer science to society as well as to other disciplines, particularly biomedical science.

The unit provides students opportunities for self-expression. Teams identify a personal or community problem of interest to them that can be solved with a mobile app solution. The problem can address issues such as health and wellness, the environment, school culture, emergency preparedness, education, community service—the options are endless!

DIGITAL COMMUNICATION TOOLS

Digital Technology is a course that introduces 7th and 8th grade students to current computer-based training required for success in today's digital communication world. Instruction includes digital camera, internet-based software training in the basics of Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Digital Citizenship and research tools. This foundational course integrates skills in the core academic content of math and science with technology. Students use technology to collaborate, communicate, generate innovative ideas, investigate and solve problems. These skills will continue to be used throughout the students' school experiences.

INTRODUCTION TO ROBOTICS

Introduction to Robotics is a semester course that allows students to explore and apply basic engineering principles and technical skills in developing and using robotics. The course includes instruction in the principles of robotics, programming, design and testing and applications to industry.

STEM TECHNOLOGY

STEM Technology is a course that introduces 7th and 8th grade students to the design process using current technology resources. Through the use of a variety of STEM related tools including CAD Software, 3D printers, laser engravers, soldering irons, and other equipment students will learn about design and structure, reverse engineering, structural analysis and more through hands-on projects. Students will have the opportunity to use creativity and problem solving throughout this course as they design unique projects based on personal and career interests. This course will help strengthen students' understanding of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) through real-world applications
