ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS - 6TH GRADE

6th Grade Language Arts is aligned with the Washington State Learning Standards which include College and Career Readiness standards. Reading, writing, listening, speaking, language, and collaborative strategies are used purposefully to build knowledge and skills to help students become independent readers, writers, and thinkers as they continue to progressively build the skills necessary for academic success in middle school. The primary goals of the course are to foster independent learning, encourage in-depth exploration of the content, and develop academic habits of mind. Outside reading is required.

The primary goals of the course are to foster independent learning, encourage in-depth exploration of the content, and develop academic habits of mind. Outside reading is required.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS LEARNING STRATEGIES A

Students will receive explicit, intensive instruction in order to improve reading vocabulary, fluency, comprehension, and the ability to read a variety of text types. Students will study, develop, and apply a variety of specific reading strategies they can employ when reading fiction and non-fiction texts.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS LEARNING STRATEGIES B

Students will learn specific, efficient fiction and nonfiction reading strategies as well as organizational skills that will support academic success in middle school. Students will study, develop, and apply critical thinking skills to summarize, analyze and evaluate a variety of text selections, This class focuses on Washington State requirements for reading proficiency as measured on the state ELA Assessment.

HONORS ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS - 6TH GRADE

This course is aligned with the Washington State Learning Standards which include College and Career Readiness standards. In addition to the entire essential skills requisite to 6th-grade Language Arts, the curriculum of this course demands deeper, more complex thinking and reasoning. Students are required to produce work that exemplifies a highly developed understanding of the curriculum. Advanced reading, writing, listening, speaking, language, and collaborative strategies are used purposefully to build knowledge and skills to help students become independent readers of above-grade-level texts, writers with advanced composition skills, and analytical thinkers as they continue to progressively build the skills necessary for academic success. Students who qualify for gifted services are placed in this course

HONORS ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS - 7TH GRADE

In addition to the entire essential skills requisite to 7th-grade Language Arts, the curriculum of this course demands deeper, more complex thinking and reasoning. Students are required to produce work that exemplifies a highly developed understanding of the curriculum. Advanced reading, writing, listening, speaking, language, and collaborative strategies are used purposefully to build knowledge and skills to help students become independent readers of above-grade-level texts, writers with advanced composition skills, and analytical thinkers as they continue to progressively build the skills necessary for academic success. Students who qualify for gifted services are placed in this course.
