INTRODUCTION TO MEDICAL CAREERS - 802090

MEDICAL CAREERS - NAC - 802091

Learn anatomy, physiology, and the signs, symptoms and prevention disease. Explore medical careers in your areas of interest, as well as in high demand jobs. Learn procedures for patient care including taking blood pressure, temperature, pulse and respirations, as well as feeding, lifting and exercise. Health unit coordination, clinical program computer use, charting and patient documentation are also taught in this program featuring real-world experience with patients. A portion of the year is spent in a supervised clinical experience working with patients. This prepares students for entrance into a college level nursing or medical programs, as well as for certification as a Washington State Certified Nursing Assistant. Medical Detectives-89000A/B

Students play the role of real-life medical detectives as they collect and analyze medical data to diagnose diseases. They learn to apply the experimental design process as they work with teammates to creatively think and problem-solve medical issues through hands-on labs and projects. Like healthcare professionals, students learn how to measure and interpret vital signs, perform dissections, investigate disease outbreaks, and explore how an inner breakdown in the human body can lead to dysfunction. This course is part of the STEM, Health Science, and Human Services Career Clusters and encompasses critical 21st Century Skills transferable to all career pathways.

This CTE course prepares individuals for employment in health and fitness clubs, wellness centers, public and private recreation facilities, hospitals and corporate fitness programs where they will perform a variety of instructional and administrative duties. The topics addressed in this course include anatomy and physiology, fitness techniques, exercise science, personal training, nutrition, and customer service.

Sports Medicine I develops understanding for students in the health sciences using project-and inquiry-based methods to examine the impact of physical activity on human anatomy. Medical case studies will be used to learn the complexities involved in discerning, diagnosing, and treating specific ailments and injuries. The course includes instruction in first aid and emergency care, anatomy and physiology, and applicable professional standards and regulations.

Students will engage in a practicum experience and apply their skill and understanding in an authentic, therapeutic environment. Students are required to participate in an after-school internship.
